Our environmental impact at Acorn Cottage
Acorn Cottage – When we renovated the building in 2012 we added solar panels and plenty insulation to keep you snug.
Reduced Plastic – We have removed the single use plastics including toiletries and where possible we buy large containers of product which we decant into reusable containers for daily use.
Environmentally Friendly Cleaning Products – You will find environmentally friendly cleaning products in Acorn Cottage.
EV Charger – We see electric vehicles as the way forward and have an EV charger on site for our guests to use (small fee applies).
Wild Birds – Our wild bird feeding station has a minimum of 3 different types of bird feed and attracts a large number of bird species both resident and migrant.
Honeybees – As well as producing honey, our bees are fabulous pollinators and lovely to have around!
Food Miles – Most of the goodies in your welcome pack have been grown, raised, baked or produced on our farm and so have minimal food miles.
High Animal Welfare – All our livestock is grown slowly and as naturally as possible to very high welfare standards and with minimal medication.
Trees and Hedges – Since we arrived at Oaks Lane Farm in 2008, we have planted hedges and a woodland using only native British grown plants which has created greater diversity on the farm.
Pond – The large wildlife pond on the farm is managed naturally with minimal intervention. This is home to moorhens, wild ducks, newts, frogs and many more species we can’t see.
Firewood – We are lucky to have a sustainable supply of home grown wood.
Grassland – We are proud of our wildlife friendly farming practices and manage our grassland as naturally as possible to encourage more varied plant species and wildlife
